It is half a century since Bapak began the historic journey that would change the lives of so many around the world, arriving in England on 22 May, 1957. With three companions, he travelled across the globe on what must have seemed like a journey into the unknown, facing the full impact of completely different cultures, meeting countless new people every day, and unconditionally sharing the latihan with any who asked to receive it. Since then, the world has seen dramatic changes, upheavals and disasters. It is not easy to step back in time and imagine how it must have been: what it represented for the travellers, as well as for those pioneer members who met Bapak and his party that year.

Even so, this booklet, put together by SPI in honour of those events, helps to recapture the excitement, wonder and even confusion of that time.
